Air coolers, sometimes called air-to-air heat exchangers, are the best choice for cooling electrical enclosures and refrigerated cabinets containing objects that can not be easily cooled by direct contact to a cold plate. There may be irregularly shaped components, parts that need freedom to move, or objects that do not have any one good surface from which to remove heat. While not as efficient as the direct contact of a cold plate, air coolers are ideal in these cases because the cooled air adapts to any and all shapes within the cabinet.

HIGH PERFORMANCE AIR COOLERS

Cold plate coolers are usually the best method of cooling an object when the object can be attached directly to the cold plate. The direct contact allows the heat to be efficiently conducted to the thermoelectric (Peltier) modules. This keeps the system operating as efficiently as possible and improves the stability and accuracy of temperature control.

Liquid coolers excel at delivering cooling to concentrated heat sources such as laser diodes and for delivering cooled fluid into remote or compact locations where the cooling assembly itself cannot be located. The basic operation is simple: fluid flows in one tube, it is cooled, and then it flows out the other tube. An external pump is required, and typically small DC magnetic-drive pumps are used to minimize the amount of pump power (heat) that is imparted to the fluid.
